Interest Group Updates

• Public Sector Interest Group, 9 October, London, England
  The meeting planned for 8 July has been postponed until 9 October. The theme is: The Beyond Budgeting in the Public Sector – Case and Vision for Change and Where to Start. This meeting will focus on this theme with particular emphasis on what the initial steps might look like in the Public Sector. Addressing the theme will involve the views of some experts, a look at a generic roadmap for the journey, a review of our conclusion so far and a particular journey in a public sector organization (albeit only part way through) will give us some insights to help us address the theme. Each participating organization is then requested to talk for about 15 minutes on their case and vision for change and where they have started or plan to start. This work will help us to start mapping out how the BB journey might look in public sector organizations. The BBRT is now accepting proposals to speak at the BBRT 8th Annual Conference (13-15 May 2009, San Francisco, CA, USA). We are looking for innovative case presentations in finance and planning. If you would like to be considered, please submit your proposal to Kisty Fairchild, BBRT Director of Marketing, by Friday, August 22, 2008.

How CPM systems can support adaptive management

Abstract: Corporate performance management (CPM) systems have the potential to enable leaders to devolve more decision-making to front line teams while keeping themselves informed and in control. But everything depends on how these systems are used. If it is to reinforce top-down control then little will be gained. But if it is used to empower front line teams then CPM will provide a real source of competitive advantage. This paper looks at these issues and how some organizations are maximizing their value from CPM.
