How to Build an Ethical Organization
Abstract: The public perception of large corporations is at its lowest point in recent history. And for those working within and around these organizations it’s not hard to see why. Employees are under increasingly levels of stress and have little faith in their leaders; customers believe they are being taken for granted through hidden charges and poor service; and shareholders are holding their breath waiting for the next corporate collapse. Despite new regulations, the impact on corporate cultures has been negligible. Too many organizations continue to operate in a gray area between what’s right or wrong and too often step over the wrong side of the ethical line. In this paper we argue that leaders need to escalate ethical values to the top of the corporate agenda until every employee understands that the ethical road is the only one to take.
